About Us
Hello there,
My name is Kaysie, I am the face and lead hobby farmer behind SSD Homestead. Sew she did homestead is a family-run urban homestead nestled right in the heart of Roseburg Oregon. We raise miniature and standard dairy goats and strive to breed show quality and high producing animals with gentle temperaments. My three sons help maintain this small farm with as much love as I dedicate to these animals.
All our goats are registered with the American Dairy Goat Association and or Miniature Dairy Goat Association. We are not on DHIA yet, (the ADGA milk testing program) but do keep milk records to track our does dairy production and plan to be testing in spring of 2025.
HOMESTEAD PHILOSOPHY:
Our homestead is holistically managed when possible. Our first approach to common goat herd health is to always find the natural method of treatment before ever resorting to traditional medication treatments.
HERD MANAGEMENT:
We feed our dairy goats high quality sun dried alfalfa hay and a custom grain mix, mixed right here at our homestead to create the best ingredients for milk benefits! Grain is only given to pregnant does at the end of their pregnancy and while lactating. We supplement Copper and Selenium 2-3 times a year, and offer our goats a high-quality mineral mix available free choice. After our goats turn 1 year of age we annually test them for the most common goat diseases (CAE/CL), and their health is closely monitored from birth. We de-worm naturally using herbal supplements weekly. Pregnant does are given CD&T booster 2 months before kidding as well as a copper bolus. Kids are not vaccinated here, if you would like your kid to receive CD&T you will need to do that after you purchase them at 8 weeks of age and again at 12 weeks.
Pricing & Sales Policy:
PRICING- We participate in “proving” our goats through Performance Programs (Linear Appraisal and DHIA Milk testing). These programs come at the expense of time and cost, our prices reflect this amount of work. Below is a general base pricing for goats and kids. If an expensive breeding was used or a goat was brought in from a great distance, this may be reflected in the price of the kid. Prices for blue eyed/polled kids will be higher than brown eyed/disbudded kids.
SALES POLICY- Our reservation list is free! So please add yourself to the list and please specify any details you are wanting in your dream goat. If you are on the reservation list and the kid you desire is born and available, we will contact you within 3 days of the birth. At that time a $100 deposit will be required to hold the kid for you and schedule a pick up date. If you have not requested a bottle baby then we keep the kids at least 8 weeks before they are weaned. In order to continue our quality breeding program, ~As the breeder, we reserve first rights on all breeding's~ regardless of the reservation list. Once deposit is given for the kids of your choice, you will need to promptly pick up the kid at 8 weeks of age. If for any reason you need us to keep the kid here for you we can do so with a $5 per day boarding fee that will be due at the time of pick up.
Deposit Refunds-
The only time a deposit will be refunded is if the kid is no longer available or we've decided that we will retain the animal in our herd. In which case your deposit will be refunded in full or you may transfer it to another animal.
Once a kid leaves our farm, their health and vitality is your responsibility. We are not responsible for any illness or death that may occur after your goat(s) leave our property (there are never any guarantees with live animals. We HIGHLY encourage you to do your homework before bringing your goats home and also keep a close eye on them to catch any illnesses early. Goat kids are highly susceptible to coccidiosis and pneumonia (both potentially fatal) to name a few, especially after the stress of travel or weaning. Goats should be fed an appropriate diet for their sex and stage of life (growing kid, wether, lactating dam, etc.) and regular access to fresh clean water, minerals and baking soda are a must. We only sell our goats to homes that have other goats or to a home purchasing at least two of our goats. No one, including us, can guarantee the mammary systems on doe kids. We strive for excellence in conformation, dairy character and mammary system, but breeding animals is not a perfect science.
Guarantee-
To the best of our knowledge, we sell only healthy animals. Please be aware that all sales are final and that all animals are sold as is with no guarantees given nor implied. All does are sold as open/ non-pregnant unless buyer arranges for a breeding and subsequent blood test, at their own expense, to confirm pregnancy before purchase.
Please message us if you have a question or concern about your goat at anytime!
